You Must LISTEN to these Albums

Below are ten of the greatest albums I’ve listened to from recent memory. My selection encompasses different genres and hopefully act as gateways to these genres and the other fantastical work created by these artists. I hope you enjoy the works listed!

OK Computer

The brilliance of this album is indescribable. The dystopian mood set by the instrumentals, the lyrics, and Thom Yorke’s intimate vocals makes everything just perfect. This is the definitive Alternative Music Album.

Dark Side of The Moon

Dark Side of The Moon will stand the test of time. It’s ambitious in its experimental nature and they recorded all those psychedelic sound effects by analog alone! As Fred says “It’s just sublime. I don’t have a bad thing to say about it.”

My top 3 fav tracks: Time, Breathe (In the Air), and Money.

Abbey Road

The Beatles’ last album ‘Abbey Road’ is considered by many as their greatest ever. Personally, I believe there are many valid reasons why:

  1. Everyone was involved. Ringo even made a good song named ‘Octopus’s Garden’.
  2. The pinnacle of George Harrison’s ability is seen here through the two iconic songs ‘Something’ and ‘Here Comes The Sun’.

Most importantly, it contains a ton of other hits such as ‘Come Together’ and the incredibly gutsy ‘Oh! Darling’.

The Phantom Of The Opera(Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Though I believe it much better to attend the live action play, the music is good enough to stand on its own. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s compositions are catchy and pull at my heart strings as I am vividly brought back to the tragedy that is ‘The Phantom of the Opera. In addition, the performances by the vocalists are awe inspiring; Emmy Rossum’s angelic vocals and Patrick Wilson’s deep, commanding voice shake me to my core every time I take a listen.

The Money Store

Wow! This album is a journey. Initially, it shocks you with the vocal’s abrasiveness and the highly energetic, electric music instrumentals but you’ll get used to it. This band is truly a leading figure in industrial and experimental hip hop. It serves as a perfect introduction to the world of noise music. Just listen to it man!

Is This It

Is This It by The Strokes is a remarkable debut album that shifted the path of rock to a more groovy garage rock sound. Every song is a banger that you could tap your feet to. If you still aren’t convinced, try checking out one of the less popular tracks like Soma or Alone Together. IT’S GOOD INNIT??? Jokes aside, the simplicity of the instrumentals, the sexually themed lyrics, and the overall punky atmosphere makes this LP a landmark in rock history.

Soy Pablo

Boy pablo’s stunning yet short debut album is the epitome of what the indie rock world has to offer. It provides listeners with a handful of catchy hits like tkm and Sick Feeling and upbeat tunes like Losing You and Feeling Lonely. If you love the sound of this album, you should check out artists Phum Viphurit, Cuco, and Mac Demarco as they offer something similar.

Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

The Arctic Monkeys are probably the greatest british rock act of the 21rst century. Their debut was met with rave reviews and the masses of England seems to agree as it’s became one of the fast selling albums of all time. Just like Is This It?, it has that garage rock sound but it differentiates itself a tad by having a more chaotic and youthful feel to it which I prefer.

Forever Virgins

Forever Virgins by MC Virgins is the best internet rap album. It may not take itself too seriously yet it elicits a powerful response as the subject content often bring back memories of the good ol’ days when it was “2012 in the summer and we would mine”. DPVEVO sums what makes this LP awesome with his statement-“Hella catchy, good flow and bars, good features, comedic value and a lot of nostalgia (maybe a bit too much…) overall a really fun experience and would definitely recommend”. I totally agree.

Everywhere At The End Of Time

This goliath of an album is immensely loved by it’s dedicated fanbase and they have all the justification for doing so. The Caretaker did such a good job of selecting his samples and manipulating them in order to perfectly emulate the worsening of symptoms in the six stages of dementia. Listening intently to this album may break you so do what I do sometimes: use it as music to help with sleeping.
